1) Fun Ways to Use a Picture book in the Classroom
Using the example of her picture book, "Where Are My Stripes", author,
illustrator and teacher, Patricia Daly Oe, will demonstrate how to plan
creative and enjoyable lessons around a picture book. It will be an
interactive presentation with games, a quiz and a song as well as a general
discussion about the advantages of using picture books to teach English to
children.
2) Picture Books, Storytelling and Imaginative Learning
In this presentation author and teacher, Patricia Daly Oe, will discuss the
value of using picture books and storytelling in the learning environment.
Following on from this, she will show practical examples of how to use
picture books and storytelling techniques in small and large classes and for
a range of linguistic levels. Themes covered will include: using stories for
vocabulary development, creative activities inspired by picture books,
rhythm and rhyme, making your own picture stories (students and teachers),
famous Japanese stories in English and using stories for special events such
as Halloween, Christmas or Kindergarten performances. Patricia will use many

1) Learning and Forgetting
A normal aspect of learning is forgetting. Students learning EFL should be
made to feel comfortable asking for information they have already been
exposed to but have forgotten. This is a demonstration for teachers of how
to accomplish that.
2) Motivate 'Em - Colour coded language learning cards
The workshop is aimed as those who are teach ages about 6 to 14. However
many of the ideas and techniques apply equally well to older students. The
workshop will have participants involved in a variety of activities which
are designed to keep the pace and group size varied. The workshop will
culminate in activities leading to sentence building. This will be done in
such a way as to give students' greater control over these activities thus
increasing the chances of student motivation.
Chris Hunt
1) Games Galore!
Children seem to have an insatiable appetite for games and activities. It
can be a challenge to keep up with them, especially when one has ulterior
motives, such as improving English. In this action packed workshop Chris
Hunt will focus on games and activities that are both useful for English
teachers and meaningful for children. Quantity and quality - who could ask
for more!
